Catechetical Certificate Program

The Theological Institute of Saint John’s Seminary is offering a Catechetical Certificate Program to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. It is an excellent foundation for further studies at the Theological Institute and is a pre-requisite for the Master of Theological Studies Program at the Institute.

The certificate program has the following objectives:
● To study more deeply the riches of the Catholic faith.
● To improve facility in presenting the truths of the Church.
● To learn more about how different age groups learn.
● To explore the importance of the Church’s evangelical mission.
● To further develop skills of catechesis to evangelize in a parish, at home, and in the world.

The program has a faculty who are well-versed in their fields of study. Each month they will lead you through one or more of the following topics:


Evangelization Catechesis
Scripture and Tradition Trinity
Christology The Church
Liturgy Sacraments
Morality Prayer
Creation/Fall/Redemption Eschatology
The Human Person Catholic Social Doctrine

In addition to the Saturday sessions, the program requires student participation in three skills workshops. One of these skills workshops (Psychology of Learning and Emotional Development) is mandatory. Students can choose the other two workshops from a workshop schedule which the Certificate Program coordinates and creates.

When and where:
Classes meet one Saturday a month from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the academic year at the Theological Institute, which is located at our new location:

Who Should Pursue a Foundational Certificate?

• Teachers
• Parish volunteers and employees

Anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith should pursue a certificate!

Typical Schedule:
9:00-9:15 Welcome, Socializing, Q&A
9:15-11:15 First Lecture
11:15-12:15 Lunch
12:15-2:15 Second Lecture
2:30-3:15 Spirituality Talk
3:15-4:00 Discussion/Pedagogy

For individuals: $350-This is the total cost for all eight sessions. Note: Tuition does not include the cost of any books students may need to purchase. Books purchased new roughly total $150.

For parish-sponsored individuals- 10% discount

Audit- $350 (The auditing option is for those who do not wish to pursue a certificate but would like to learn more about their faith. They will not be given the monthly quizzes )
